DAY 3: The Fifth Ring of Diet Hell

May 8, 2008 at 1:29 pm 20 comments

My co-worker told me the snap would be audilbe on this day. Of course, I didn’t believe her. The first day I knew I had to change my eating habits I freaked. What in the hell do you mean only 5 oz. of meat and meat substitutes ALL DAY? There must be crack in your drinking water.

Then I started to warm up to the idea. Day 1 I did fine. I didn’t have enough snacks that would take me over my 1600 calorie diet. I felt dizzy most of the day, so it’s kind of a blur. Day 2 I did even better. I ate less than 1600. I even got in a 20 minute walk.

But today when I woke up, I needed a damn Snicker’s bar. It’s been calling my name. Right along with those smurf looking folks called Keebler. I don’t even like sweets that much, but shh…can’t you hear them?

Melissa

Melissa!

Yes.

You know you want me.

But I’m doing so good right now. I want to fit into those jeans I bought, but can’t wear because my hips are too wide.

You know you want me. We have M&Ms lodge in our sweet, sweet, fatty dough.

I’m trying to think of preztels(12 of them to be exact, because that will only be 110 calories), even a blueberry bagel with fat free cream cheese.

Melissa, you can just lick us. That won’t count against your calories. Just one lick. Maybe a even small nibble.

Folks tell my mom and kids I love them. I don’t think I’m going to make it.

Yes you are! People have no idea how addictive sugar is. If you can make it over this hump you can do it!

For me it’s sugar and carbs!

Amie-I’m an easy mark. I don’t have specifics. If it meants not counting calories at the moment, I want it. I’ll do fine, but I have moments when I want to eat a very large greasy burger. sigh. The good ol’ days.

    Hang in there!
    Remember you now have company.

I can hear the oreos singing in chorus from the kitchen cabinet. I bought some strawberries today hoping that they might be louder πŸ™‚

Oh, Oreos. I love Oreos. With milk. Thanks, Ilana for reminding me. Now they are whistling the tune to Andy Griffin. Oh, Oreos.

    And yeah, misery loves company.

Have you tried those 100 calorie packs of . . . oh name it these days? I get them all the time because well, it’s easier than having a whole bag of something around and in some cases I like them better than the original.

  • 6. Mel  |  May 8, 2008 at 8:54 pm

I’ve tried those 100 calorie packs. I’m thinking of buying the Doritos. I’ve been craving chips too. Well, okay, I’ve been craving everything not good for you.

  • 7. Cynthia  |  May 8, 2008 at 8:58 pm

Oh, the Doritos pack is good. So is the Oreo cookie one. I’ll inhale the Cheese Nips, which probably negates the whole 100 calorie aspect when you eat the whole box in a sitting.

  • 8. Mel  |  May 8, 2008 at 9:17 pm

Well, I figure if I want to fall off the wagon I can just eat 16 of those packs and still not have gone over my daily goal. I know. I should stop thinking in these terms. It’s no good for me.

“There must be crack in your drinking water.”

    LMAO! Thanks.

I work in a drinking water treatment plant.

Mac thank you for not telling what’s REALLY in the drinking water. Crack might be a step up.

Nice to see ya outside the forums.

Snickers are deadly and that’s all I’m saying.

    Just deadly.

Gum is my savior. That and the fact that once I start eating something else, I can usually adjust to wanting that. Sometimes it’s just the power of suggestion. Also, I’ve discovered that a square or two of dark chocolate eaten veeerrrryyyy slowly can sometimes satisfy. I like the Hershey’s Sticks, which can be nibbled. I make those things last, like, five minutes, which is a lot longer than it takes to snarf down a Snickers bar. Just try not to think about what you’re missing which, I know, is so easy, right?

BTW, are you doing Sparkpeople? There are some great message boards on there, and people can help you through those cravings.

That said, now I really, really want a Snickers bar. Thanks, Melissa. Thanks a whole damn lot. πŸ˜‰

Pam-Snickers are right up there with Twix bars, Kit-Kats, and Krispy Kreme Donuts. I’m so lucky they closed down the one we had in town or things would have gotten dire.

Well, I figure it’s kind of like a cold, if you pass it on you’ll feel better.

And yes I joined snark people.

    Wishing you luck, babe.
I am a serious sugar junkie, so will be no help.
I’ve given it up before, got used to it, didn’t like it when I did go back to it (it was too sweet!)…but I always go back. Sigh. :-/

I advise against licking strange little elf creatures. You don’t know where they’ve been.

ROFLMAO with Mac about the crack in the drinking water! Hilarious!

  • 17. Edie  |  May 11, 2008 at 6:46 pm

I eat the Ghiradelli dark chocolates, wrapped separately. This way I just eat one at a time instead of the whole package. πŸ™‚

I’ve lost 4 pounds in the last month, so I know what you’re going through. Good luck!

That sugar is very addictive. But just letting me know I’m not the only one is support enough.

LMAO. I promise I’ll only lick the cookies.

Congrats. I’m now realizing how hard it is to drop weight that took years to put on. I’ve joined SparkPeople and it’s really helping keep track of what I’m eating. Knowing I have to account for my days meal I’ve been eating better.

But it’s late at night that gets to me.
