Thanks, Marianne. With a name like Neil she has to have some cajones. I just hope you enjoy the hell out of my book.

!!!! I may be starting something here. And, yes, I have to agree excerpts makes me want more. Also if I love the author’s blog, I’m likely to see if their personality shows in their writing.

Excerpts!!! If an excerpt hooks me, nine times out of ten I buy the book 😉

  • 6. Mel  |  February 1, 2008 at 6:46 pm

Well, Katie. You are in luck(yes the annoucer voice again. Lol.) Check out my website and you can find an excerpt. Hopefully it’s enough to grab ya.

I’m with the others. Excerpts do it for me too. I’ll hop over to your website and check it out.

  • 8. Mel  |  February 3, 2008 at 1:46 am

Excerpts-Well, they are the preview to how the writer’s write, and if you want to read this particular book. So I can understand why excerpts win hands down.

I think I’m just one of those strange people who go either by word of mouth or after I read the first page in the book store I buy it.

Well, I’ll buy a book for lots of reasons and not all of them reasonable.

Word of mouth. If someone recommends a book to me I’ll consider it.

The Blurb/Excerpt. Several new authors came to me this way.

It’s an author I know. I’ll buy sight unseen a book by someone I really respect.

I’ll try and post your contest on my blog too. I know how hard it is to get the word out.

First, thank you, thank you! In this business (and a lot of others) you can’t reach the readers unless they know your name.

Second, Well, I’ll buy a book for lots of reasons and not all of them reasonable.

I’ve bought books before if the person recommends it is someone I know is hard to please reading wise. Or I love their work and if someone wows them I’ll go check their book out.

I don’t think there are any die hard rules and I also think that’s why you can find promotion in a million different forms.

I’m here because Jen McKenzie said I should check you out, so word of mouth is the best with me! Best of love on your budding writing career – someday before I die I hope to give it a whirl – cheers, steve

Yup, I’m thinking Word of Mouth is going to win with me.

    Thanks, for stopping by Steve.

Congrats on your upcoming release! I’ll read a book if someone tells me it’s good. Better yet, if someone tells me I HAVE to read it cuz it’s THAT awesome. 🙂

  • 14. Mel  |  February 4, 2008 at 5:57 am

    Thanks, Susan.

That sounds like peer pressure to me. lol. But a good book is a good book.

    Congratulations on your release!
I will pick up a book if the cover grabs my attention. Then I read the excerpt and go from there. If a friend recommends a book I usually read it.
